If your fiancé comes from a traditional family, you’ll need to consider asking the parents for their blessing before getting down on one knee. Some fun ideas might be to take the parents out for a nice dinner or doing their favorite activity while your other half isn’t around. Make sure you have a conversation about this so that you aren’t skipping a step or stepping on any toes! Another option to consider is whether or not you want friends to know if you’re about to propose. While asking for advice is great, make sure the people that you tell know how to keep it a secret. Otherwise, they might end up ruining the surprise! A secret photographer is great when it comes to surprise proposals! A photographer is great to capture the moments of the proposal and you’ll look back on those memories for years to come! A photographer can be a friend, family member, or professional. Just make sure that they aren’t obvious or your partner might catch on faster than you might like.

What’s your cover story? You need a plan of action to make your story believable. Make sure that everyone involved knows and understands the cover story so that everyone is cohesive.

 What will you use to decorate (if anything)?

Make a list of everything that you will need for the big day. You don’t want to forget something and then become flustered when the moment arrives! If you are wanting a specific spot for your proposal, enlist some friends to help you decorate so that you can have a few moments to relax before you propose.

 What size does the ring need to be & what style is your partner?

Are you thinking of a princess cut or round? Do they want a solitaire or do they want a halo band? There are so many options for engagement rings so it’s important to know what’s important to them. A good friend or family member might be able to help you pick out the perfect ring, just make sure they can keep your secret. Jewelers are always great for offering advice when it comes to picking out the ring so don’t be afraid to ask questions! If there’s a ring that they wear often, take it with you when you’re ring shopping so that you have a great reference to their ring size.

 Where do you propose?

Where do you want to propose? Where you first met, where you had your first kiss, or where you first said I love you are all memorable places where you can pop the question! If you rather not revisit those locations, think about some great romantic spots. No matter where you live, there are so many great local places to visit for a romantic proposal such as a garden, the mountainside, or by the ocean. If you and your partner love to travel, a destination proposal is also a great idea! How memorable would it be to go somewhere that they’ve always wanted to travel to? If you’re more of a homebody, there are great options to propose from the comfort of your living room! No matter where you decide to propose, it will be magical.

 When do you propose?

This one is not that easy! The right time to propose varies from couple to couple. What doesn't vary is the commitment you're making to your loved one. So before you pop the question, take a minute to consider what you're asking and who! When you marry another person, you're accepting everything about them, the good and the bad! Keep in mind that timing is important for both people in the relationship, so do your best to make sure your partner is ready to make that very same commitment.

Whether it’s the anniversary of your first date or your first kiss, anniversaries are a great way to make the big moment even more memorable. Another option might be your parent's or your grandparent's wedding anniversary. If you’re close to that relative, they definitely won’t mind sharing their special date with you!

There’s a reason why holidays are the most popular times for proposals! They’re big events, the family is all gathered, and you’re with the ones you love! Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and the Fourth of July are all great opportunities to celebrate your big moment.
